What is SB 793?


 SB 793 prohibits the sale of:


Þ Menthol cigarettes

Þ Flavored vaping solutions and pre-filled devices

Þ Flavored non-cigarette tobacco products like chew and little cigars or cigarillos

Þ Flavored tobacco product enhancers

Þ A violation by a retailer or retailer’s agent or employee is an infraction punishable by $250 per violation.

Þ SB 793 does not criminalize individuals for purchasing, using or possessing flavored tobacco products. 

 

 Tobacco Industry’s Response:

RJ Reynolds and Altria, two tobacco industry giants,  have filed a referendum to place a measure on our California ballot to block SB 793 from taking effect on January 1, 2021. They have until November 30 to collect the 623,212 signatures to qualify their referendum for the November 2022 ballot

 

 What can I do?

Let your voice be heard. Inform your friends and family about SB 793 and the referendum.
