The more test results we can collect, the better understanding we will have of the prevalence of COVID-19 in our communities. This information informs decisions on reopening.
If you believe you have COVID-19, CALL your health care provider before going to get tested, as providers will need to ask you questions prior to testing.
Lab testing is not available in Sierra County, but the collection of samples can be done by our local medical clinics and other sites out of county. You must always call the healthcare provider or testing site to determine if you meet the criteria for testing, they will then collect the sample using proper personal protective equipment. The sample is sent to a laboratory and may take 3-5 business days to confirm results. Test results are sent to the provider, who will notify the Public Health Department. If the test is positive the laboratory is also mandated to report this via the CalREDIE database.
